Sober Sundays and the Joy of Missing Out
There’s something satisfying about waking up on a Sunday with a clear head, fresh skin, and a calm feeling. No shame or "What did I say?". No injuries or unexplained bruises. No “where’s my phone?” panic. No cancelled plans or hangover anxiety. In this article I talk about the Joy of Missing Out.

For years, most Sundays used to mean recovery — the blurry memories, hiding behind sunglasses, and swearing I’d never drink again. Now, they mean something entirely different. Sober Sundays have become sacred — calm, restorative, and peaceful. I use my Sundays to relax, to spend time with family or do something completely different, outdoors when possible.
When you stop drinking, you realise how many of your weekends used to disappear in a haze. The Joy of Missing Out isn’t about isolation — it’s about choosing yourself. It’s about waking up refreshed, hydrated, and proud of your decisions.
There’s no shame spiral, no missing belongings, no anxiety about what you might have said or done. You keep your dignity — and your Sunday.
You save money, too. No overpriced cocktails or “one more round” guilt. Instead, you can invest in things that add to your life — a breakfast at a nice restaurant, a new experience, or treating yourself or someone to something special.
It’s a quiet rebellion against the idea that fun requires alcohol. The truth? You don’t miss out — you finally show up.
So here’s to Sober Sundays — the mornings that remind you how good life is when you've nothing to recover from or regret to feel. The real joy isn’t in what you miss, but in what you gain: peace, presence, and self-respect.
